Who gets to become a media company? What happens when AI changes the way we search for products? And if advertising moves into AI-powered experiences, how will marketers know if it actually works?

In this episode of Commerce Media Minute, I’m sharing three stories that caught my attention this week and the questions they raised as I continue learning about where commerce media is headed.

In this episode:

  • Topgolf launches Topgolf Media Networks — and gets me thinking about how commerce media is expanding beyond traditional retailers into entertainment and other places where consumers spend meaningful time.
  • Albertsons Media Collective expands its work with Criteo to bring sponsored product discovery into AI-powered conversational search, raising an interesting question about what “search” could mean in an AI-driven shopping experience.
  • LiveRamp and OpenAI focus on measurement for ChatGPT advertising, highlighting an important challenge for emerging AI advertising channels: proving what actually works.

The common thread I noticed this week is that commerce media continues to show up in new places—from physical experiences to AI conversations—and each new opportunity seems to bring a new set of questions for marketers.

If there’s one thing to remember this week, it’s this: as commerce media expands, understanding where consumers are spending their time, how they’re discovering products, and how marketers measure those interactions may become just as important as the advertising itself.

Commerce Media Minute is an independent ShaunAyala.com production where I document what I’m learning about commerce media, retail media, advertising, AI, measurement, and the technology shaping the industry.
